Movie Review: Ultimate Gift, The
Combined Rating: 47% (S:54%; P:41%) - The failure of The Ultimate Gift is simply a question of quality. The film isn’t very good. The acting is subpar, the aesthetic is amateur and the underlying ideals are a cynical attempt at niche marketing. There really is nothing good about this movie and that is why audiences rejected it in droves when it was released in theaters and continue to reject it on DVD. This will no doubt be the fate of most if not all films that follow the same path. Assuming that churchgoers are not savvy movie fans or that they are somehow entirely different from average moviegoers is a failed premise.

Movie Review: Why Did I Get Married?
Combined Rating: 86% (S:86%; P:87%) - It seems blasphemous to compare Tyler Perry to Woody Allen or Ingmar Bergman but in dealing so directly and honestly with relationship material, Perry is in their tradition. Less angsty and much more of a softy and a romantic, Perry bravely tackles the kind of issues that most filmmakers deal with indirectly or with snide humor. Perry has a long way to go in terms of directorial craftsmanship. It is the honesty of his writing that is his true talent.
